Faisalabad Telecom Region was selected as the pilot region for the Broadband Programme.Given below are the reasons for selecting Faisalabad Telecom Region as the first project to provide affordable broadband in un-served urban areas:
- 2nd Largest Telecom Region in Population
- Approx 300 Main, Remote and Small Digital Switches
- Optical Fiber network laid by PTCL (1600Kms), Wateen, Mobilink and Multinet.
- A total of 2,400 Cellular Base Stations in the Region - 1,850 Base Stations in un-served areas.
- Large Number of industrial, educational, health and financial institutions
Given below are the details of beneficiaries of broadband in un-served urban areas of FTR:
- Approx 500 High Schools and Colleges
- 190 Vocational Institutions
- 4 Special Education Centers
- 600 Health Institutions (tele-medicine)
- 150 Financial Institutions and Banks
- 10 Nadra Swift Centers & several franchised e-sahulat Kiosks
- 7,000 Teachers
- 0.4 mil Households
- Others: Post Offices, Govt. Insts., Courts, Bar Associations, Libraries, AIOU RSCs, VU Learning centers
